Dan Nelson

Dan Nelson is recognized for his unique aesthetic, expertise and sophisticated approach to design. A client, Atef Mankarios, CEO of Trevi Luxury Hospitality, expressed this best, “Dan has an extraordinary eye for realizing the utmost potential of each integral space.”

After co-founding Vision Design as a division of Rosewood Corporation in 1991, Dan was named president in 1992 and purchased the firm outright in 2003.

Having garnered a global clientele and reputation for excellence in luxury resort and hotel design, Vision has received numerous industry awards, such as being named an Industry Giant by Interior Design magazine.

Under Dan’s leadership, Vision has been awarded myriad contracts for the design of five-star hotels and resorts including:

  • Hotel La Samanna, Orient Express Hotels and Resorts, St. Martin, FWI
  • Caneel Bay, A Rosewood Resort, St. John, USVI
  • The Mansion on Turtle Creek, A Rosewood Hotel, Dallas, TX
  • Hotel Crescent Court, A Rosewood Hotel- Dallas, TX
  • 51 Buckingham Gate, Taj Hotels, London, England
  • Sonoma Mission Inn, Sonoma, CA
  • ‘21’ Club, Orient Express, New York, NY
  • The St. Regis, Macau, SAR
  • The Four Seasons Apart-Hotel, Macau, SAR
  • The Reefs Resort, Bermuda—Named Best Hotel in the Caribbean, Travel+Leasure 2012

“I love to be part of a collaborative process,” says Dan, “including architects, operators and owners who work together to create beautiful and functional properties. Most people do not realize how complicated hotel design is.” Dan adds with his typical wry sense of humor, “A hotel is basically a hospital with better carpet.”

Dan is as passionate as ever about his ongoing residential projects in the United States, Mexico and the Caribbean. His residential interiors have been published in Architectural Digest, Veranda, D home and Luxe Interiors. “Hospitality design for many years took its direction from the luxury residential market,” Dan continued, “and now they both are at the cutting edge of technical and aesthetic advances.”

After receiving his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin, he was at the helm of Dan Nelson Interiors, before Joining Rosewood. Dan’s wife, Chipper, is a furniture designer/manufacturer and they have collaborated on many projects around the world.
